RL7827 Tadpole Tape
CFP Tadpole Tapes are resilient gasketing tapes formed by folding specially designed cover materials over heat resistant cores and sewing or cementing the tail section to form the characteristic “tadpole” shape. The design provides effective sealing where limited bolt pressure and/or uneven mating surfaces are prevalent.
RL7827 is a durable seal that offers good compressibility and recovery. RL 7827 is both heat and flame resistant. It does not allow flame penetration after exposure to 2000 F (1093 C) flame for 15 minutes. It offers resistance to most caustics, gasoline, oil, water and steam. It does not support combustion. Its cover material is manufactured from a fire-resistant neoprene compound calendared onto a wire reinforced aramid blend fabric. The core material is inconel wire mesh.
The tail is sewn with Kevlar sewing thread. RL 7827 is recommended for operating temperatures to 250°F (121°C) continuous and to 400°F (204°C) short excursions.
RL7827 is approved to Lockheed Aeronautical specification LS60228.
Tadpole shaped seals are available in standard sizes of ½”, ¾” or 1″ bulbs with tails of 2″ or less. They are also available in custom-specified bulb diameters and tail widths.
CFP tadpole tapes and seals are used for a wide range of sealing applications. Typical applications include: Aircraft compartments, oven and furnace doors, ducting access doors, dust and environmental control, hooded equipment, clean rooms, other vibration and thermal barriers, and crucible lids.
